A Tale of Two Boots
It’s that time of year when the focus moves away from trainers onto boots. This autumn it’s a tale of two boots as at one end of the trend spectrum it’s all about knee high numbers while at the other edgy, flat hiking numbers rule. Here are my top picks including some other options if neither appeals:
Take a Hike
The key to these hiker boots is to soften the toughness by pairing with tights and a floaty skirt or dress. They also work with skinny jeans but be careful if you have shapely or short legs as these styles tend to come quite high up the leg so can turn yours into tree trunks, hiding your ankle and cutting off your leg at an unflattering point. If that is the case then try with a skirt or dress before you completely discount the trend.
Practically speaking, these are perfect for pavement pounding throughout the winter.
Leather Hiker Ankle Boots £59 M&S
Dundee Shearling Bots £190 Boden
These are pretty out there but do also come in black.
Pearley Embellished Hiker Boot £150 Dune
These are more feminine and an easier wear than the lace up numbers.
Pixxel Buckle Detail Hiker Boot £140 Dune
Cavenham Ankle Boots £160 Boden
These also come in leopard print.
Last season I bought a pair of flat boots from Zara kids because I am short and have small feet. So if you are finding all these styles too tall and clumpy, head to Zara’s kids section where there are lots of good options and they go up to a size 6:
Ankle Boots with Studded Detail £39.99
Knee High
Tall heeled boots are also big this season and also work well under dresses and skirts as well as worn over your skinny jeans.
Knee High Leather Boots £79.99 H&M
I have a pair from M&S last winter that are very similar to these and which I love, so these are my top pick at a great price for this autumn.
Faith Leather Knee Boots £199 Mint Velvet
Dakota Knee Sock Boots £189 Mint Velvet
Suede Zip Detail Knee High Boots £99 M&S
These come in black and tan.
Slouch Block Heel Almond Toe Boot £99 M&S
Yep slouchy boots are making a come back and these are a rather gorgeous grey suede.
Round Toe Stretch Boots £98 Boden
If you struggle to find a knee high boot that fits your calf and doesn’t gape then try these stretchy ones which will give a snug fit. They come in black, navy and burgundy.
Mid West
If you’re not sold on either of these styles, then go for a Cowboy boot which is a much easier wear.
Leather Block Heel Western Ankle Boots £49.50 M&S
Go for snake to jazz things up. They do also come in black.
Clara Cowboy Boots £129 Mint Velvet
These come in black leather, croc or tan suede.
Paloma Studded Ankle Boots £119 AND/OR John Lewis
If you want something more exciting than plain black, a bit of studding could be the answer. These are only in stock in sizes 4-6.
And if you are just after a very comfortable and wearable boot that will go with everything these this is a great style:
It comes in black suede, leather and a tan suede.
