The time is now…get your legs dress ready

I used to love getting in the bath with the kids but that was before they got big and I now spend the entire time protecting myself from the various limbs that poke and prod places they shouldn’t. They too don’t seem to be all that keen as inevitably one of them will remark on the Gruffalo-like quality of my prickly legs. But now we actually have a run of a few sunny days it is time to throw off those jeans, get the razor out and slap on some fake tan because the dresses window is mercifully short and now is the time. From a dedicated trouser-wearer, here are my top picks for the season:

The Jersey Dress

Something that is easy to pull on and doesn’t look too trussed up but pop on a pair of heels and you still look the part. This Venice Beach Dress from Hush £40 comes in black, poppy (although it is much more orange than red) and blue/black stripe. The perfect summer dress to take you from beach to bar (or school run to the pub).

At the other end of the jersey spectrum is this Twist Knot Wrap Dress £98 from ME+EM. Great for work and play: a smart option to keep you looking stylish in the summer sun.

The Shirt Dress

The simple shirt dress is the ideal option for the summer and a real wardrobe staple to take you from 9 to 9.  Here are my two favourites:

Hush Military Sleeveless Dress £50.

Whistles Lola Dress £95.

The Stripe Dress

You can’t go wrong with a Breton Stripe tunic for an off-duty look. Boden has it’s version at only £34.65 but with limited size availability.

Alternatively, go for something more body con with this Off Shoulder Ruched Dress £69.50. It also comes in lots of other plain colours too.

A follow on from last season’s knitted midi length dresses, SS16 brings you the stripe midi dress. Not for everyone I appreciate as it is the least forgiving thing out there but M&S has a great one at £19.50.

The Denim Dress

The denim dress style this season is the shirt dress and this Gemma Shirt Dress from Oasis £32.20 is a great buy. One that you can easily wear now bare legged and through to winter with tights and boots – feels wrong to even write about winter when summer hasn’t really graced us yet…

Boden also has a denim dress with its Popover Shirt Dress £69.50.

For a more fashion take on this, make yours a midi with this Curved Hem Tie Detail Dress from Warehouse £55 (although there is 25% off all dresses with the code DRESS25).

Now, of course, there are no issues with the hairiness, whiteness, or shapeliness of your leg if you go for a maxi dress so more of that anon.
