Get bling for spring with a new necklace

Word of warning: stop reading if you are about to or are currently eating. The single most revolting thing happened to me the other day as I was getting the kids ready for the bath before I headed out to meet some friends. In short, the sequence of events went like this: one child on the loo, the other on the potty. One child in the bath, the other makes a premature breakaway from his ablutions to join his sibling. Me lurching forward to stop him from turning the bath into a public loo, me tripping over said potty, contents flying everywhere. Lots of screaming. Me then stepping bare-footed in aforementioned contents. Lots more screaming by everyone (although miraculously no swearing). Potty is no more.

And so from the vile to the beautiful because when the sh*t hits the fan – or the foot – buy a necklace. It may not be an actual proverb and nor is it a key life lesson but it is still a pretty good rule to follow when you want to breathe new life into an old outfit. It’s also a very easy way to look a bit more spring-like.

Starting off with a necklace from Accessorize which I recently bought and which I have been wearing so much. Typically I cannot find this online anywhere which is not very helpful at all so it may well be sold out but it is in store and is £25.

They do, however, have this Beautiful Bloom Charm Statement Necklace £25. The splash of yellow is lovely and it will look amazing with grey/navy/blue/white – so basically your wardrobe staples.

Stella & Dot is good for statement jewels although it is pretty pricey. I love this Yellow Statement Necklace £65. It is one of the cheapest options and you can wear it long or short. Don’t save it for best and you will definitely drive down the cost per wear. Modernize a simple Breton stripe top, brighten up a plain navy sweater or white t-shirt.

Another one is the Tulum Tassel Necklace £85 which is one of the styles you can cleverly wear in lots of different ways.

You may not want a colourful collar, in which case Mint Velvet has this Matte Silver Teardrop Necklace £45 which would look as lovely with a simple cami in summer as it would with a black top in winter.

If full on bling is not your thing, then you can still update your look with some fine chains and the Z collection at Accessorize is an excellent and affordable place to start. These little gems look a lot more expensive than their price tags. Crescent Moon Pendant Necklace £12.

This is another sweet style: Large Eternity Hoop Pendant Necklace £15 and it will look lovely worn in the neck of an open shirt.

Hush also has some lovely styles. For a shorter necklace then this Star Necklace £49.50 is a winner. It also comes in silver (and in a longer length for £26).

A longer line necklace can be incredibly slimming and this Long Feather Necklace £19 will give even the most basic t-shirt a lift.

To really brighten up your plain tops then this Tassel Necklace £39.50 is perfect. It also comes in blue. Both will look amazing against white and with denim.

Mint Velvet has a lot of tasselly options to choose from including the Double Tassel Necklace £29. Tassels are not just for the Genie’s magic carpet, they are very on trend this season.
