Going Out Out

There is a scene in the Trolls film where one of the trolls pretends to be someone she’s not because she thinks the King who she is in love with, won’t like her for who she is – don’t worry in the end the right message gets through and he does in fact fall in love with her anyway. But when she introduces herself to him, she makes up her name and calls herself Lady Glitter Sparkles. And that ladies is a rather tortuous segue into what we are about to enter – a whole world of glitter, sparkles, sequins and shimmer for in case you didn’t get the memo – it’s the party season peeps!

The problem with this time of year is that you walk into a shop and are assaulted by an eye-watering amount of merchandise that is collectively, quite frankly over the top. When viewed together it’s just too much but looked at individually, there are some gems worthy of any magpie. Naturally you might think of reaching for a sparkly top to pop on with your jeans but this season, turn things on their head and keep you sparkly separates for the bottom half.

Warehouse is looking strong this party season (sequin cropped tops and matching leggings aside) so try Warehouse Velvet Sequin Midi Skirt £42 which comes in black and silver. You don’t have to pair this with a sparkly knit, in fact I prefer it with just a thin sweater so as not to overdo it. Oasis also has a very similar one for £39.

There’s no hiding in this Ombre Sequin Pencil Skirt £65 which is already selling out.

And if you’re on the shorter side then try Topshop’s Sequin Stripe Midi Skirt £65 as it comes in regular and petite. Hmmmm super tempted by this…

Or there is this Rainbow Foil Pleated Skirt £49 which has a matching blouse Rainbow Foil Stripe Top £39 to create a perfectly retro co-ord set but then mix and match with other tops and bottoms for lots of different jazzy outfits – jeans, sweaters, t-shirts, cami tops – you name it really!

Zara’s Pleated Metallic Thread Skirt £79.99 is also very nice but only available in Medium. Pair with a knit and boots for the day or a simple cami and sandals for the evening.

They also have this Limited Edition Sequin Skirt £95.99.

M&S also has a Sparkly Pleated Midi Skirt £45.

If you are just after a nod to all this frippery then here are a few more subtle options to try:

Zara’s Jeans with Metallic Thread £25.99 are an easy piece that wouldn’t look odd with a chunky knit during the day but with a little cami and some heels might be all you need to glam it up.

Or there is the same style with Bejewelled Taping. If you want a pearl trim, diamante embellishment, snakeskin or coloured stripe – they pretty much have all these covered.

I am most tempted by these Jeans with Shiny Side Stripe £25.99

In a similar vein is this Beaded Shirt Dress £29.99 which comes in black and khaki. Perfect if you need a relaxed but slightly more dressy piece.

Shoes are another easy win and there are lots of options out there to rival Cinderalla’s glass slipper if you are off out. If you happen to be a size 6 then you can still get M&S Block Heel Jewel Slingback Court Shoe £35

Otherwise try in stores or go for the black version which is in sizes 4 – 6 including half sizes.

Also selling out fast in lots of sizes is the Kitten Heel Jewel Mule Sandal £35 in black or teal velvet. These would certainly liven up your jeans or trousers.

Or try &Other Stories Jewelled Eye Velvet Pumps £79

For a flat Zara’s Beaded D’Orsay Shoes £49.99 are also suitably sparkly.

As are these Cordelia Flats £110 from Boden.

Subtler still are these Eloise Flats £90 from Boden.

And if that doesn’t float your boat then never fear, there’s lots of other ways to glam it up without having to go all out. Watch this space…
