After a few months of neglecting the men folk, I am kicking off the autumn season with a knitwear focus to spruce up your casual wardrobe. There are a couple of rules to follow which will take your weekend attire from ‘meh’ to much more interesting: texture and detail. I give you the zipped cardigan or sweater.
Now this may sound pretty dull and a have a whiff of your grandpa about it but there is nothing old-fashioned about these. And with options to suit every budget, it’s time to swap the hoodies of your 20s and boring sweaters of your 30s and 4os for something more interesting:
Forget your Grandad because these zipped cardigans strike the perfect casual balance – a grown up hoodie, a much cooler alternative to the Superdry zip up (you’ve all been there but now it’s time to move on and upgrade). This comes in light grey marl, this dark grey and a navy.
This comes in black, navy and dark grey marl.
Once you have your navy/black/grey covered then it is time to go beyond the basics and look at a bit of colour. This maroon is the perfect addition to any autumn wardrobe. The bottle green colour is also a nice option.
Technically this is not a jumper at all but hey ho. This is a slightly sportier number which mixes a textured knit with jersey sleeves and the khaki is another great colour which will work with black and blue denim alike.
I love the dark green here but it is also available in black.
This is a wardrobe staple, a total classic that you will be wearing for seasons to come. The chunky knit is lovely, as are the pockets. It also comes in Tall
Now if you don’t like the full zip, then you can go for a style like this. This one comes in khaki, navy, oatmeal and a bright orange. If you’re a roll neck kind of guy then you can certainly layer this on top or just go for a short/long sleeved t-shirt.
This is a smarter option as it is a fine knit but nonetheless the zip neck makes it a much better option than a plain crew necked sweater. This comes in a plethora of colours from a gorgeous Bordeaux to camel and with all your staple basics in between.
Another textured option here which only comes in this dark green colour.
I like this lighter colour as a nice alternative to all the darkness of the winter months.
So chaps, now is the time to invest in some new knitwear for the autumn and winter ahead.
