The last straw: the bag of the season

It’s time to grab the bull by the horns, make hay while the sun shines and all that jazz because we are about to experience a heatwave. Hold onto your hats chaps – it’s difficult to remember what the warmth actually felt like.  So to celebrate the fact the sun has got his hat on, I have a totally indulgent and fairly niche post all about the straw bag. Hmmmm you’re thinking, that doesn’t sound like the type of thing I need in my life. Well think again because a straw bag is the last word in chic this summer. And I can guarantee that this is one of those pieces that will be sold out everywhere by the time you actually come to buy one (in fact the bag that prompted this search was a Muun style from Matches which has disappeared. Sad face).  So carpe diem!

A circular straw bag is probably the style of choice and there are lots of options to choose from starting with this Round Straw Tote Bag £42 from Urban Outfitters.

Hush has its Santorini Bag £59 in both a natural and black.

Add a bit of glamour with some gold on &Other Stories Straw Circle Crossbody Bag £45.

Mango has this Handmade bamboo coffer bag £69.99.

They also have a couple of styles that aren’t in yet including this Jute Bucket Bag £35.99 which is very nice.

For something a bit more individual try Monsoon’s Leila Straw Shoulder Bag £39.

Or try Next’s Circle Straw Bag £38. The black is already sold out.

If you want something a bit smaller then Urban Outfitters has this Round Straw Crossbody Bag £29.

It’s not round but this Raffia Cross Body Bag £29.99 from Zara comes in black and natural

If you are looking for a more traditional shopper/tote style then Mango’s Texture Bicolour Bag £19.99 is a very chic and smart monochrome look that you could rock equally well for work as for holidays.

Or do monochrome with fringing on River Island’s Straw Tote Beach Bag £32 at ASOS.

For something understated stick with the natural look of Zara’s Straw Bag with Rounded Handles £29.99.

Or at the opposite end of the spectrum, go bright and fun with a splash of yellow: Slouchy Straw Tote bag £42 from UO.

Pompoms are still in so Boden’s Pompom Beach Bag £70 is a definite mood lifter which you don’t need to save for the beach.

Or else go for tassels with this Rihanna bag £45 from Monsoon.

I saw a very nice bag on Instagram the other day but cannot for the life of me remember where it was from but this is very similar: Hello There Sunshine £80 from Tillyanna.

So no we just need the sunshine to stay… fingers crossed.
