The Year of The Snake

Well actually 2019 is the year of the pig but in fashion terms it’s all about the snake, which is looking like it might knock the good old, trusty leopard off it’s top animal print spot.  This is not a bolt from the blue as snake has been slithering into our conscious for a few months (sorry pardon the pun – couldn’t help it!) but this season, it’s going full tilt. If you are wedded to your leopard, maybe there’s also a little room to add in a spot of snake to the menagerie. As ever, you can either dip in your toe or get totally involved:

Top to Toe

Shirt dresses are big news this spring and H&M has this V Neck Dress £24.99 which you could pair with tights and tall boots for now and swap for trainers or sandals in the summer. Layer over a sweater or if you prefer stick a Heattech layer from Uniqlo underneath – wouldn’t be without mine as they are so warm and thin which makes them perfect layers.

Warehouse’s Snake Print Shirt Dress £55 is another option.

You could do an alternative and buy a skirt and shirt to create three outfits in one. Massimo Dutti has this Snakeskin Shirt £59.95 and matching skirt £69.95

As does Zara – Snakeskin Print Skirt £29.99 and Shirt £25.99

Snake Hips

I love this Snake Print Pleated Midi Skirt £49 from Warehouse and the styling is spot on too with the long boots and a sweater.

New Look has a few left in sizes 6, 8 and 12 of this Light Grey Satin Snake Print Pleated Skirt £22.99 which also comes their Curve and Petite ranges.

They also have a lilac version £22.99 and if you don’t fancy lilac on your top half then swap for a soft white fluffy sweater instead.

If you are after a less grey looking snake then look at this Pleated Skirt £24.99 from H&M. And there is the white fluffy sweater in action and looking good.

If pleats aren’t your thing, then try New Look’s Satin Midi Skirt £19.99 instead.

Or H&M has this satin Calf Length Skirt £12.99

Toes

These Clifton Ankle Boots £140 from Boden are on the mark. Not only do they tick the print box, but they are also a cowboy style which is big news. Even better, they are the perfect transitional boot because they are dark enough to work well with black but light enough to sit with your lighter washes of denim. In short they’ve got versatility written all over them.

For something more traditional go for their Ballerina £75 or Georgina Loafer £98 – these also come in half sizes.

Zara also has these Ballerinas with Bow £19.99

These Pointed Toe Slingback Flats £138 from J Crew are probably my favourites however.

Or these Faux Snake Kitten Heels £32 would look just as good with jeans as they would with tailored trousers for work.

And I rather like &Other Stories Snake Overlap Stiletto Pumps £79

Or these Colette Point Toe Courts £228 from J Crew at John Lewis.

And finally a couple of other accessories: Oasis’ Leather Look Snake Belt £16 which I am definitely buying as I wear my leopard one on repeat.

And this Lingfield Mini Saddle Bag £98 from Boden which I am coveting.

Is snakeskin your fashion marmite and are you a lover or a hater?
