Checking In To AW

It’s a tricky time of year from a shopping point of view – do you still buy summery or is it time to cut your losses and embrace the new season? It feels pretty dismal to already be hanging up summer’s boots so to speak, but with the weather a bit all over the place, it’s not such a bad idea to think about the odd key piece that you can wear on cooler summer days and which will also work into the autumn. So with this in mind, this week’s post is about transitional layering in the form of a blazer. But not any old blazer, it has to be checked because yet again checks are big news for AW19. And this is a piece that will glide seamlessly from work to weekend depending on how you wear it. So if you didn’t get yours last autumn, then now’s the time.

Here are my top picks to suit every budget:

Tanna Check Double Breasted Blazer £290 Reiss

This works very well with lighter coloured tailoring for now but you can swap this for a darker bottom half as the season progresses.

Addlestone Tweed Blazer £160 Boden

This comes in Petite and Regular so a good one if you tend to find all these styles a bit too long and oversized. Nice off duty styling here with denim, boots and a tee, stripey or otherwise.

Check Single Breasted Blazer £169 Mint Velvet

They also have this Double Breasted Blazer £129.

Adele Checked Blazer £89 Hush

Another nice denim look paired with a spot of animal and a slogan tee.

Checked Blazer £79 M&S Collection

There are several options to choose from here but this is my favourite as double breasted styles tend to add volume and be even more oversized. If you are after a double breasted number then hurry for this one from Autograph which is £99 and is already sold out online in 6 and 8.

Check Blazer £65 Warehouse

This is not a subtle check but with the 70s firmly in this season’s fashion sights, this is a big yes from a trend point of view. I like this with the crops and it doesn’t have to be the matching bottom half, a plain colour would also do the job.

Check Structured Blazer £59.99 Mango

Buy the co-ord trousers if you want to do the whole look or roll up the sleeves and wear with blue denim for an off duty look.

Gingham Blazer £49.99 Zara

This is a real goodie if you want to keep the vibe summery but it will undoubtedly work well into the autumn season paired with monochrome separates or with a flash of colour.

Double Breasted Jacket £34.99 H&M

And last but not least, paired with simple black bottoms, this one from H&M.

There will undoubtedly be more of these as the season progresses but to hit the ground running for the AW season, you’ve got to get your checks on.
