The Man Repelling Blog – Dungarees

Dungarees…I know they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Certainly, I’m alone in my family in liking them as I am regularly guffawed at and face comparisons of being a farmer, Super Mario or best yet, a Minion. If ever there is a fancy dress party, I’ll be set as we have a pair of Minion goggles!!

But it seems to me that dungarees are often an item of clothing that women love irrespective of their husbands/partners and they are a great alternative to jeans while still providing all the comfort and durability of denim. So here are my top picks of styles out there at the moment and for a few different ideas on how to wear them, then have a look at my Instagram reel which has several different outfits to inspire you. Yes they are perfect with trainers but they also work well with flats, loafers and heels too. Wear with t-shirts, blouses, blazers, leather bikers, cardigans and much, much more.

As with most denim, the leg shape and wash are key and with a blue denim you will ideally want some sort of wash through the leg to visually slim. A tapered leg shape is often a good idea so you don’t feel too masculine and swamped. If you do go for a wider leg style, then a heel can help if you are on the smaller side.

Lewes Dungarees £59.50 Fat Face

These come in three different washes – this mid blue, a lighter wash and also an inky denim. And they also come in three leg lengths – Short, Regular and Long so are a great place to start.

Girlfriend Dungarees £98 Boden

The black version is fully in stock but the mid denim is out of stock in most sizes.

I like these in the washed black but I’m not keen on the denim wash they also do as it is too flat.

For a real spring hit to your wardrobe, go for a white pair. Assuming you are no longer in sticky fingers territory otherwise you will be a walking stain magnet!

Another popular style, this is only in stock in an XS now but the wash on these is perfect and the leg shape a great balance of a slightly more relaxed skinny/slightly tighter girlfriend depending which way you look at it!
