Five Simple Spring Swaps
Now March is here and we’ve had some lovely sunny days, you might be thinking about turning your attention to your spring wardrobe. Even though your inbox will be being bombarded by “New In’ emails, don’t feel you need an entirely new set of clothes to see you through the next few months. As always start with what you’ve got and build from there. Here are five simple swaps you can make, easy things to think about to help to freshen things up:
1. Spring layers
This is key for me…. you have probably been wearing the same 1 or 2 coats on repeat over the winter but spring is the time when you need to add some different jacket options into the mix. Always remember that you will want different proportions to wear with different bottoms. So a slimmer legged jean will be good with a longer line jacket for example, whereas a wider legged trouser will be great with a shorter jacket. If you are after some inspiration then here are 10 casual spring jackets under £60.
And if you find your trenches/spring jackets a bit lacking on the warmth front, this little puffa is ideal for layering underneath all of them!
2. Swap cashmere for cotton
Sometimes it is a case of looking at different fabrics which feel more spring-like. So if you are wedded to your knitwear think about moving into cotton sweaters/cardigans. Here is a lovely cotton sweater that comes in lots of colours.
And although I will be wearing my base layers for a long time, I will swap out my usual Heattech with cashmere and go for a long sleeved cotton option that is actually fit to be seen and not just kept hidden! The two styles I have linked here are ideal for layering as you can still see the neckline under a crew neck sweater. One is a more fitted option, while the other is looser so will cater for all preferences and they do come in different colours too.
3. Life beyond knitwear
If you’ve been cocooned in snuggly knits for the past few months, it might be time to start thinking about bringing out some of your blouses and shirts again. And if warmth is something that worries you (it’s always on my mind!!) then get yourself some Heattech tops – Uniqlo does a scoop neck option that is low enough so as to be invisible. This is the perfect underpinning to allow you to wear your blouses and shirts for longer. You can find lots of different try ons of new season tops on LTK and my Instagram page.
4. Colours
If you’ve been living in black trousers or jeans, now is a good time to think about what other colours you have to wear on your bottom half. Getting a bit more navy in your life is an easy win to freshen things up for spring. And actually colours often work a lot better with navy than they do with black where the contrast can feel too great. But what about some other coloured trousers – brown and cinamon tones can be just as versatile and work with a whole host of different colours as this reel hopefully demonstrates!
5. Accessories
Having one black leather bag will not see you through an entire year and in fact as your outfits get lighter or brighter, that is probably the last accessory you want to choose. So think about other versatile neutrals like tan or taupe or even chocolate which is a softer alternative to black. It might not quite be basket bag and raffia season but suede is a great option for softening things too and is a huge trend. Metallics/animal prints etc are also extremely wearable or even go for a flash of red to brighten things up.
