Joggers: from sofa to FROW

Happy New Year!

I am currently engaged in a battle of the head versus the heart. The head says, it’s January sale time, is freezing cold and generally time to hunker down in a whole load of cosy and comforting clothes. The heart, however, is full of hope and of a Spring season which although is about a million months away in reality, in retail terms has actually already started to hit stores (total nonsense but that’s the fashion and retail calendars for you). So where to go – sale bargains that you can actually wear now, or a little peek of what is to come? Well how’s about a bit of both, in the form of the humble jogger? From cuddly and cosy joggers to posh tracksuit bottoms, who knew there could be more than slobbing about on the sofa to this little fashion beauty?

So starting off with the super snuggly and bargainous type. Ok so not strictly what the spring season is all about, but certainly what it’s all about for me now. Hush has a couple of sale options including these Biker Joggers £38 down from £55.

Not in the sale, but equally not a fortune either are these Washed joggers £39.50 which come in this lovely olive colour as well as a charcoal. And there you go – styled for now and for spring (minus the beanie).

They also have another best-seller updated in new spring colours with their Amie Joggers £49.50. I don’t love the boots with these but you could definitely wear  now with skiing socks and trainers, a cashmere sweater and biker jacket and looking into the dim, distant future with a cami and a pair of sandals on holiday…

ME+EM is the home of this type of product and they have some sale offerings like this Side Stripe Jogger £48 reduced from £59.

They also have a plain version in black and navy in their Slouchy Jogger £40 down from £58. Both these styles are very limited on the size front but feel lovely if you can manage to snaffle a pair in your size.

Please ignore the styling as never is a midriff less likely to be bared than in January post Xmas binge-athon and given the Artic temperatures. However another bargain from New Look with these Black Contrast Trim Straight Leg Joggers £9.00 reduced from £19.99.

Although Boden says ‘You might not think you need cashmere joggers’ – I am, in fact, pretty sure that is exactly what I need! They have this Cashmere Lounge Trouser £104.30 in the sale reduced from £149.

On the other side of the tracksuit coin are these posh joggers which most definitely say 2017 (strictly speaking they have been around for a while but if you have already invested, then it is good to know they aren’t on the ‘out’ list). A pair of stretchy waisted, silky trews is what these boil down to, which doesn’t sound hugely similar to a pair of trackie bums when you put it like that…

ME+EM’s Luxe Crepe Slouch Pant £149 in navy is top of the list. With a wider leg, these may be a better bet for those on the taller side. They can also be on the generous side – which is no bad thing post Christmas.

Alternatively a more subtle style is the Tux Track Pant £149.

Whistles has these Jenner Stripe Slim Leg Trousers £110 in navy. I like these for being a bit slimmer of leg as when you are on the smaller side, you need to be careful of drowning yourself in too much volume.

They also have their best-selling Elyse trouser which has been updated with the go-faster stripes: Elyse Side Stripe Trouser £120. These are the black version but they also come in navy with a maroon stripe.

Mint Velvet has a Black Side Stripe Sports Pant for a more affordable £89.

If it is a bargain you are after then Warehouse has these Crepe Joggers for a mere £15 in the sale in both black and navy. No stripes but for under £20 not bad.

Now while these are generally styled with the ubiquitous white trainer, they can most certainly be worn with other footwear from brogues to heels. And if the thought of flashing some flesh around the ankle leaves your teeth chattering, then don’t. Just wear with socks. Simple. So from full price to flipping bargain basement and couch potato to Front Row fashion, the good old trackie bum can do it all.
