Queen of Hearts

Stripes – got, stars – done. Now we move on to the new season’s motifs. I bring you the spot and the heart.

I definitely like the hearts – no doubt about it. A little bit of red to brighten up a top – it’s fun and light-hearted and done in the right way not remotely twee. Spots on the other hand can be exactly that, or worse still, frumpy. But that is also missing the elegance of a spot which done in the right way reminds me of Julia Robert’s Vivian in Pretty Woman. Gorgeous and sophisticated.

Starting off with hearts and top of the list has to be the obvious but very lovely printed tee like this from Maison Scotch Heart Print Tee £44.95. Perfect for wearing with boyfriend jeans and slides or you could up the ante and add a blazer and some espadrilles/mules/block heeled sandals or ankle boots for when the weather turns. I love the white here but it also comes in navy with red hearts.

This deserves another couple of entries as Warehouse has this Heart Print Stripe Tee £26 which I also like. With it’s higher neck it’s better for those smaller of bust.

And ASOS has this Sonia Rykiel Heart Motif T-Shirt £65.

Moving forward to the new season and Chinti and Parker at Selfridges have this Breton Heart Intarsia Cashmere Sweater £295 for a nice little twist on a classic.

This wouldn’t have been something that would have sprung into my mind if I was thinking of heart-based product but I love these Petit Ami Slim Boyfriend Jeans £129.95 again from Maison Scotch at John Lewis. They have styled them in some of the photos with the heart print tee. I think that is too much. A plain white tee or one with a slogan on would be fine. Even a pretty off the shoulder top or a slick white shirt.

For your feet I love these Soludos Heart Platform Espadrilles £81 at Selfridges.

On the jewellery front, Anna Lou of London has several heart motif pieces including this Double Heart Necklace £60 which you can personalise.

Now to spots and Boden has the Roberts’ vibe down with this Lola Skirt now £34 in the sale. This comes in petite and regular and would work with a simple black top and accessories for a stunning look.

Whistles has a number of lovely pieces including these Spot Cropped Trousers £119. I love them with a brighter coloured shoe and simple white tee. But you could keep the look chic and monochrome.

For now this Spot Cold Shoulder Dress £139 from Whistles would work well on sunny days here or abroad and could be dressed up or down with heels or flats depending on your mood.

Or try & Other Stories Dotted Dress £69. The boots and belt give it a festival feel, but remove and add more feminine accessories and you are event/wedding-ready.

Alternatively a classic pick is this Josephine Dress £49 from Boden.

Thinking about the new season and this Spot Printed Crew Neck Sweater £99 from Whistles would look great paired with black trousers for work. I also like how this is styled with a leather skirt.

For an inexpensive spot injection, try this Flowy Textured Blouse £19.99  in a red spot print from Mango. This would be a good piece casually with denim and sandals/ankle boots or could easily be smartened up with tapered tailored trousers for the office.

Alternatively the Virginie Ruffle Shirt £55 from Boden would be slick with trousers for the office.

If you haven’t sorted out your holiday swimwear, then a total no-brainer is this Ischia Halter Swimsuit now £36 in the sale from Boden.

Or they also have the Amalfi Bandeau Swimsuit £52.

Or the Santorini at £60.

Another last minute holiday purchase here with these Richmond Shorts £30 which come in a variety of leg lengths but are low on stock in the 4″ and 6″.

And finally for your feet, these Esmerelda Trainers £85 are a great alternative to a pair of white sneakers.

So are you a heart or a spot girl?
