Sssshhhh – mum’s the word

One of my very dearest friends messaged me the other day saying she had just entered into Hush territory and asking if that made her a full on mum? Well, I’m not sure. I certainly found Hush after becoming a mum but I don’t think that it is a brand solely for mums. I can definitely think of other brands that fall into that category, that is if you think mum and then associate that with ‘mumsiness’. But Hush is by no means that. I think she hit it on the head when she said you have to re-think the way you dress when you are a mum in the immediate aftermath. Gone are the heels and dry clean only dresses or blouses and instead replace these with trainers, jeans and yes a sweatshirt. But not in an uncool ‘what I was wearing when I was 13’ way. For me Hush is pretty damn cool because it epitomises an effortlessly stylish casual aesthetic. And whether you are a mum of little ones or needing some off duty wear, then surely that is exactly what you want?

So with a new season upon us and a new catalogue, here is my pick of their hottest new pieces (and also a personal birthday shopping list if my husband happens to read this).

I am going to kick off with joggers because they have been elevated to a place way beyond sofas and nachos. Yep, these are a bona fide fashion item that although you can definitely chill out in, you also won’t look at all out of place exiting your front door pairing with trainers, a leather jacket and a sweatshirt. Hush has been doing various styles for seasons and seasons some of which they still do (such as their Amie Joggers £49.50 or the Long Hareem Trousers £55 both of which come in four different neutrals: black, navy, grey and khaki). But these are new in and are my favourite pair: Metallic Stripe Joggers £45. Love everything about this styling too I have to say.

Continuing with the trouser theme and if you are looking for something slightly less casual than a jogger but not necessarily a totally formal option, then these Erin Stripe Trousers £65 are perfect. You can obviously style up with heels or they would work equally well with trainers and a sweatshirt.

And not to be ignored are the Devin Culottes £59 which are a modern alternative to a tailored trouser and as ever something you can style in a multitude of ways – like this, with a tee and trainers or heels and a strappy top.

My last pick of the bottoms is the Marina Skirt £65 which you can do in an evening way as here, but it would also be great with an oversized knit and boots or trainers.

Now for what to put up top… and I have been disciplined here and am only choosing a handful of options. (Ok actually quite a large handful.) First up is the Big Love Jumper £130 which comes in three different colourways but this is the one I love. This would work with any of the bottoms above.

There is also the smaller Love Jumper £85 which as you can see here, is as good with a skirt as it is with joggers.

Top of my wish list is a good oversized sweater to wear with skinny jeans and coated/pleather trousers and the Helen £69 is that jumper either in pink, burgundy or black. However, it’s not just a trouser sweater as this is an outfit I also love and I like the idea of it with a short leather skirt too.

And finally for knitwear, the Ruffle Jumper £99 in charcoal marl is gorgeous. It works beautifully with culottes but would also be great with boyfriend jeans or a leather mini.

Tops and there are too many good tees to list here because this is Hush heartland. The lightning bolts – big and mini are very nice, as are the stars and stripes. But for a fashion feel go for a slogan like the Que Sera Tee £35.

For a long sleeved style this Outline Star T shirt £40 is a great option for wearing tucked into boyfriend jeans or loose with skinny jeans.

On the smarter side I like the Atlas Shirt £59 which comes in this sophisticated burgundy and black. These are great for a not too dressy night out or for a smart casual workplace. The twist front does a good job of camouflaging any tummy too plus the longer length at the back covers the bottom – perfect.

And on to jackets because they do good little Chanel-esque numbers. The Brooke Boucle Jacket £125 is most certainly something you could wear to the office over a dress or with a skirt or trousers. Or you could pair with jeans and boots or heels.

Now this is not a new piece but it is still gorgeous and perfect for now: Onyx Leather Jacket £295. You can put this with all the joggers, trousers, jumpsuits, dresses and skirts you can possibly think of. There is basically very little a leather biker doesn’t work wonders with. I like the grey as it is much less harsh than the black and much kinder to many skin tones.

I have a Hush jumpsuit that I have had for over a year and I can honestly say that it has been one of the best pieces I have ever bought given the amount of times I have worn it and its versatility. This season’s version is another goodie and one I can guarantee you will wear far more than you think, even if you are already a convert: Tyler Jersey Jumpsuit £69 which is another pre-order for a few weeks. Quite frankly you cannot rely on this to actually be in stock once it comes in because everyone else will have pre-ordered. If there is one criticism I would level at the brand, it’s that their stock management isn’t quite what it should be and they sell out far too quickly. Now you can style this casually with trainers and add a denim jacket or a leather one. Or you can add a blazer and some heels and you are disco-tastic.

Moving on to dresses and midi and maxi’s are still where it’s at from a fashion point of view. The Erica Dress £79 is a goodie with heels for the office but you can also wear with low ankle boots or trainers and with a biker.

I am also pretty taken by the Yasmin Dress £99. Now this is not exactly playgroup territory although it could be with some trainers.

The Tina Dress £85 which comes in black and burgundy is perfect for a ‘not out out, night out’ i.e. a rare date night. There is a very similar style in the Tara £59 too.

For a more casual daywear with boots or trainers, I like the Blossom Dress £75 in this star print but it does also come in a plain.

Accessories and shoes are not to be ignored either and I love the Galaxy Trainers £145.

I am also on the hunt for a new pair of ankle boots and these Derby Buckle Boots £220 could well be the ones. Wear with absolutely everything from jeans -skinny and more relaxed – to skirts, maxi dresses, shifts the list goes on.

Given my penchant for animal, I would have to go for the Anais Bag £110.

And finally, these Mini Tassel Earrings £35 are lovely to add a bit of fashion to any outfit. Now is the time for the trophy Pat Butcher earring but these are very tasteful.

So ladies, when you are next wafting the parachute at Gymboree, singing at Rhyme Time in the library, waggling a tambourine at Monkey Music or just chilling out at the weekend, Hush has got it covered. Just don’t let too many people in as then they’ll sell out even faster than they do now.

And if you aren’t convinced, then maybe 10% off with the code AW17PREVIEW or AW17NEW, will help!
