Spot the Styles for the New Season
Happy New Year! And with the focus very much on buying well and buying less, I’m kicking off 2020 with a post which happily marries fashion with style in the form of the classic polka dot. They’ve been around for seasons now and are going nowhere. A spot is a nice alternative to a stripe and a versatile, easy print to wear to lift any plain ensemble.
Here are my top picks:
First up it’s the good old buffet dress which also seems set to stay on the scene and what better time than in the aftermath of the Chrimbo excesses than to let it all hang loose under one of these beauties!
Add tights and boots for now.
A no brainer that you can wear with boots now and trainers/sandals in the summer. Layer up with a roll neck underneath and a faux fur/leather biker/coat for warmth.

Love the pale pink of this dress.
Black and White Peplum Smock Shirt Dress £49 Topshop
Slight variation on the theme here with a collar on the chuck on smock style.

Or for some waist definition, this is a good option.
Spot Tiered Midi Shirt Dress £49 Topshop
If you want something you can cinch in at the waist but that can still look fairly casual, then this shirt dress is a good half way house.
Black and Peach Spot Midi Dress £75 Oliver Bonas
If you’re after something more fitted and a touch on the dressier side – although you can still easily dress this down with trainers and a biker – then this is a good option.
This slinky bias cut skirt will look great with chunky knits or fitted roll necks alike and boots or trainers depending on your mood.
Another lovely swishy number that you can pair with black, off white or any other plain colour as you fancy.
Spotted Tulle Skirt £24.99 H&M
Mesh is going nowhere either and this skirt comes in two colourways – black and this cream. Dress down with a sweatshirt and trainers or take it up a notch with a body/fitted tee and sandals or boots for a night out.
Black and Peach Spot Skirt £59.50 Oliver Bonas
A flattering style that will look fab with a roll neck and heeled boots or a chunkier knit and hiking/biker boots or trainers.
Ink Spot Pleated Midi Skirt £46 Warehouse
Pink Animal Spot Pleated Midi Skirt £39 Topshop
Love this.

There’s a lot of this lovely warm colour around and I love this top. You can wear it with so many different items from crepe tapered trousers to joggers, jeans and midi skirts.
Polka Bobble Knit Sweater £65 &Other Stories
White Spot Puff Sleeve Top £15.99 New Look
Sleeves are still statement for SS20 and I love this top with denim or a pair of trousers.
