Summer Must-Haves: The pieces you need in your wardrobe now!

It was absolutely gorgeous while it lasted but now we’re back to the norm again – grey skies and average weather. So if last week made you think that you weren’t quite ready for summer, here are the must-haves you need in your wardrobe to make sure you’re all set.

1. The Denim Jacket

This is the piece that will replace your leather jacket and work with all your skirts, dresses and trousers (and possibly even denim if you’re ok doubling up). And like a leather jacket you need to make sure yours is nice and fitted with some good shaping through the waist. I think Oasis has a great style in its Betty Denim Jacket £45. This comes in two different washes.

H&M is also good for a nice fitted style: Denim Jacket £29.99

Stradivarius also has a nice one: Denim Jacket £25

Make sure you roll the sleeves up a couple of times to get the right proportions.

2. Camisole tops

Oasis does a couple of different styles depending how much coverage you want but these will work with jeans, shorts, skirts and trousers and can do casual, smart, work and evening depending on what you pair them with: High Back Vest £25. They come in various colours but black and off white will always be staples.

There is also the V Neck Cami £22 which is more strappy. As with the vest there are lots of colours to choose from.

3. Midi skirt

This Tabitha Maxi Skirt £65 from Hush has sold out once already so hurry and pre-order yours now for delivery in 5-6 weeks, maybe just in time for half term. Fingers crossed.

Another lovely print is this Bell Shaped Skirt £34.99 from H&M’s print collaboration with Anna Glover.

I have the Santana Skirt £45 which I have been wearing with a jumper and boots in the cold February and March weather but last week I wore it with a t-shirt and sandals. It comes in three colours – green although this is sold out, rust and a light pink.

Jigsaw does a very similar style in a gorgeous teal and bright blue: Crocus Drape Skirt £98 I don’t totally dig their styling particularly with the sweater but the skirt is still a goodie.

Mint Velvet has this Chiffon Pleated Skirt £89 which comes in various colours including a bright orange.

Wear all of these with a simple tee or one of the camisole tops above. And a denim jacket obvs!

4. Maxi/midi dress

If you want a simple, sophisticated and non-printed style then Oasis has this Grecian Midi Dress £38 which you could wear with flat sandals/trainers or dress up with wedges. Add a denim jacket for warmth.

Another plain option is this Marina Dress £79 from Hush.

For a subtle print try their Farah Midi Dress £75.

Mango has so many gorgeous options that it is hard to choose but a bang on trend spotty number (minus the odd accessories) is this Polka Dot Midi Dress £49.99.

5. Soft trousers

So the time will come to cast aside your jeans and go for something a bit more lightweight. Try these Monaco Trousers £45 from Hush which come in black, rust or grey.

Or these Cropped Relaxed Trousers £45 which come in black, navy and grey.

They also come in two different prints – also at £45

Massimo Dutti also has a good pair of Jogging Fit Textured Weave Trousers £69.95.

6. Jumpsuit

There are so many jumpsuits around but most of them have wide legs which aren’t the easiest always to wear. I would suggest a more tapered or cuffed leg as this is more flattering. For good printed styles try Oasis Tie Sleeve Jumpsuit £40.

Or the Aymee Floral Peg Leg Jumpsuit £38

This  Off the Shoulder Jumpsuit £34.99 is one of my favourite pieces is another of my favourite pieces from the H&M/Anna Glover collaboration.

For a plain coloured style then this Hush S/S Jumpsuit £75 is a total winner. I have the black version from a couple of years ago and it has been a brilliant buy. Another one for your denim jacket and with trainers/sandals/espadrilles that you can dress up or down.

7. Nice sandals

You can’t beat Accessorize for a great pair of sandals and here are a couple of my favourites: Mia Simple Sandal £29

Or the Freya Sandals £25. A metallic sandal is ideal because it will go with everything in your wardrobe.

So there you have my starter for ten – well not quite as there are only seven must-haves on my list this summer but with these you’ll have a load of new outfits to choose from.
