The It Knit: the cardigan gets a make-over this winter

Yes there’s It jumpers around, but there are also It cardigans too. There’s nothing small and twin-set like about this season’s cardis because they are long, chunky and full of personality.

Here are my top cardis to fight with your granny over:

I love this Leopard Print Cardigan £39 from Topshop Petite because of the gorgeous colours – it’s shorter than a lot of cardigans out there at the moment but definitely packs a glorious punch. It isn’t part of their main range and is only available in some sizes but it isn’t one of those petite things that you basically need to be a child to wear.

If you find the colours in this a bit much then try this Mohair and wool Jacquard Cardigan £71 (there is 20% off selected pieces until 19th so this would normally be £89) from Cos which is a bit more subtle on the colouring front. It’s also longer line so has the added benefit of slimming and elongating. As with a lot of Cos styles you will probably need to size down so you don’t drown. Much as I love them, sometimes their styling doesn’t really sell the clothes but trust me this is a goodie in the flesh. With skinny denim/black jeans or over tapered leg trousers…

Now for something totally different with this incredibly sleek black number from Oasis: PU Pocket Coatigan £45 – ultra modern but with a nice detail in the form of faux leather pockets.

Is this a cardi or is this a coat? No, it’s a Coatigan £40 in leopard print from Next. It is sold out online in a number of sizes and the rest you need to order now for delivery in a couple of weeks but store stock looked good when I was out and about.

Going for something dramatic now with this Double Sided Vhari Faux Fur Collar Coatigan £165 which also comes in a dark green fur French Connection – ever practical with a hood and the fur trim is removable for days when it seems a bit much!

Or with a bit less fur there is the Lilou Faux Fur Sleeve Trim Cardigan £130 which comes with black fur as well.

If you like the whole softer winter chunky knit look then Gap actually has a number of options in colours from greys to blushes. All of which would make super snuggly leisure wear or work perfectly with denim and boots should you venture outdoors. There is this Textured Open Fronted Cardigan £41.99 which comes in oatmeal, blush, black and a dark grey.

There is also this Cable Knit Cardigan £38.99 in oatmeal, light grey and a marl which I am not as keen on.

Monsoon also has this lovely soft pink Cadi Casual Chuck On Cardi £55 which was in Stylist so is out of stock in Small and Medium.

For a classic grey marl, try this Mohair and Wool Cardigan £89 from &Other Stories style. I love this over leather leggings or coated jeans and a tee with trainers or boots. Add a chunky scarf and a beanie and you are good to go.

It also comes in a lovely dark green and this brighter blue.

Or there is the Sabrina Cardigan £110 from Hush but only in stock in small and the charcoal is sold out.

For a darker grey, try River Island’s Dark Grey Tie Cuff Cardigan £60 which also comes in pink.

And if you do want to venture into the world of colour, then H&M has a good burgundy option with its Rib Knit Cardigan £24.99. It does also come in grey and black.

While Topshop does a good mustard in this Longline Cable Knit Cardigan £42.

And there is this orange one from River Island £40.

So if your look is homespun and chunky knit, fine and drapey or sleek and sophisticated, there is a cardi out there for everyone. and it really doesn’t have to be ‘granny’ in the slightest.
