Top Ten: new season knits
When Whistles sent me it’s ‘look at what we have coming in for spring’ email, I shivered. Tropical palm prints and bare shoulders – I don’t think so. Yes, I am desperate to refresh my wardrobe with a little something, but not at the expense of my health. The best investment for right now has got to be a new piece of knitwear (and to be fair to Whistles, they have just sent an email about their latest knits too!) so here are my top ten new season knits:
Sleeve details
Trumpets, flutes, frills and ties is what you need on your sleeves this spring (one at a time though please). The sleeve really is the centre of attention this season and this Funnel Neck Flute Sleeve Cropped Jumper £35 from M&S comes in grey and pink. Go pink if you want to really be on trend as it’s one of the key colours for the season.
Update the classic stripe with a tie detail like this Stripe Tie Cuff Jumper £39 from Warehouse.
This Flounce Cuff sweater £45 from &Other Stories would be fab with wide leg trousers or slimmer legs for work. Alternatively pair with a more relaxed jean and heels plus a blazer.
Pink
Pink is one of the colours of the season and a real mood enhancer. Maybe this is a touch too pink for you but it would definitely brighten up a dull winter’s day… Lofty Turnback Cuff Knitted Jumper £34. If that hurts your eyes then stick with the paler pinks and nudes that are everywhere, like this next style.
This &Other Stories Mohair Blended Sweater £65 is gorgeous. To be honest they have soooo many amazing knits that I really had to restrain myself but you can see a few more on my Instagram feed.
Hand Knits
Forget v necked school jumpers because hand knitted sweaters are having a moment, so go for some texture. This Nep Cable Jumper £55 from Topshop is fab – which is why it has probably sold out in lots of sizes. Wear with light blue boyfriend jeans, trainers and a light grey coat.
An absolute bargain is this Wavy Stitch Knitted Jumper now £17 from Miss Selfridge. Definitely not a store I frequent, but this jumper is a perfect balance of winter and spring.
Oversized
Great with a pair of skinny jeans or coated/leather trousers these oversized knits are just the thing to keep you snuggly. Stripes are a style perennial so you can’t go wrong with this Slouchy Stripe Turtleneck £149 from ME+EM. It comes in black and white stripe as well as navy and white stripe. It is a generous cut so you may need to size down and for those of you who are petite, then do a half tuck of the jumper in at the front to tame some of the extra volume.
Reiss also has a lovely oversized knit, Philberta Roll Neck £125. It comes in this lovely frost grey as well as the soft pink – which for some reason they seem to be calling chestnut??
Say it Loud
Slogans were a huge theme on the catwalks this spring so it’s time to wear your heart on your sleeve so to speak. Hush’s Joanie Sweat Top £50 does the job.
That’s it – I am off to nab myself a new jumper. I’m on a personal mission to step away from black and get colour back into my life this spring and there is plenty out there to choose from.
