Style by Claire Lopez

Top Tier

While midi dresses still reign supreme, the style for the summer is a tiered billowy number which feels very boho. Just beware too much volume as you may find you need to size down to get the right look. I showed my husband one of my purchases and he visibly recoiled and said he thought I was wearing fancy dress (this didn’t make the cut obvs and for once I think he may have had the high ground on a sartorial matter).

Foil Spot Tiered Midi Dress £65 Oliver Bonas

Now this is one of the ones I did buy that got the royal seal of approval…it’s definitely not oversized and having a sleeve is a real plus as there aren’t many dresses around at the moment that aren’t full-on summer. They have styled it with white ankle boots which look lovely, I wore it with my leopard print ones and I know that next autumn I’ll also wear with my camel knee high boots. You can wear with a leather jacket or a denim one depending on the season. Versatility is the name of the game.

Floral Folk Dress £110 Hush

This is another sleeved style that you can just as easily make work for whatever the weather throws at you. Add a belt as here if you want a bit more definition through the waist.

Beatrix Maxi Dress £95 Hush

Now this is a real beauty. Great if you have a ‘thing’ coming up as you can certainly upscale with heeled sandals. Or even just for holidays with some flats.

Leopard Tiered Shirt Midi Dress £49 Warehouse

Got to have a spot of animal print in there to counterbalance all the florals!

Strappy Tiered Maxi Dress £45 Warehouse

Ok so it isn’t really a midi but it’s a lovely option for the summer and holidays. This is a very relaxed style so probably worth sizing down so you aren’t totally swamped.

And now for all the florals…

Crepe Dress £34.99 H&M

This comes in two different prints and actually isn’t crepe at all – the fabric is a very sheer chiffon but the dress has a cami underneath. Straw bags and sandals – yes please.

Shirt Dress £17.99 H&M

A darker base and a slightly more tropical print if you find the other florals a bit granny – although that is the look….

Floral Print Dress £69.99 Zara

They have lots of these floral numbers at Zara, perfect for keeping cool in the heat. You can layer up with a denim jacket and ankle boot for now too but this is a prime candidate for sizing down as it is generously cut.

Floral Print Dress £39.99 Zara

Slightly less volume here as it’s straighter through the body.

Will you go gold with a billowy dress this season?
