Trail Blazer
Last week’s focus was on the three different casual jackets you need for spring. This week I’m having a look at the smart equivalent and there can only be one contender: the blazer. It is perfect for this time of year and a versatile number – if you get it right – that you can wear to work, out in the evening or even with denim for during the day.
What you categorically do not want is the top half of a suit or something that even vaguely resembles that. You need a slick stand-alone piece.
This is one of my absolute favourites – it is relaxed enough to look perfect with jeans but will smarten up a tailored trouser no problem and it comes in three colours – black, pink and ecru. For spring it is nice to add in a lighter colour to lift your look.
Blazer with turn up Sleeves £59.99 Zara
If you don’t want to spend that much then Zara’s version is a good option for half the price. It also comes in white and aubergine.
This is another lovely light option for the spring which works as your daytime layer with denim or equally nice with skirts/dresses and tailoring alike.
This is their black version.
If you are after something a bit sharper and more tailored looking then this is a great option. It definitely doesn’t look suit-y in the slightest and will create a lovely line with a nice bit of waist shaping. It comes in black, navy and a grey marl.
For a neat, fitted number in light colours, try this one from Oasis which comes in pale pink and cream.
Or try this one which comes in off white, pale blue and pink, a deeper pink and black.
And now if you’ve got the more classic bases covered, here’s something a bit more fashion-y for you:
Striped Structured Blazer £59.99 Mango
There is lots of linen around again this summer, so pair this super cool striped option with your jeans or trousers for a totally nonchalant look.
This is another lovely one for the summer.
Double Breasted Structured Blazer £79.99 Mango
Now this might be better suited to being worn as a jacket, given its double-breasted nature. But the rust colour is very on trend and will look great with black bottoms and denim.
The other option is to go bright and add some daring colour. There is a lot of red around and this one is a goodie. Go the whole hog and do the trouser suit thing if you dare…
Which one are you going to go for?
