What to wear…on your bottom half
If the turn of the seasons means that you are now exclusively reaching for your skinny jeans and finding yourself rather bored at the prospect of months of wearing these and little else besides, then this blog is for you. All is not lost, there are lots of options out there from posh joggers you can leave the house in to wide legged styles. The black trouser has never looked so appealing.
What is key to making these styles work is what you put on top so a more cropped boxy knit will work as will a lightweight sweater that’s fitted or semi/fitted. You will want to do a front tuck unless if sits at the right place naturally and avoid longer or oversized pieces. Then you need a leather jacket or a nice wool coat over the top to smarten things up. And if you’re wondering about what to do with chilly ankles, then get yourself some statement socks – a bit of glitter or sparkle will do just nicely and keep you toasty.
Posh Joggers
Clovelly Woven Joggers £75 Boden
These come in black and navy and in petite too. If you can’t quite leave the gym gear behind, then these are a gentle step up. Wear with trainers and different knits.
Darted Crepe Trousers £35.99 Mango
These are just shy of 25″ at the inside leg so will work if you are on the shorter side.
Jaeger Crepe Drawstring Trousers £99 John Lewis
Sold out in all sizes apart from 10 and 12.
Jaeger Slim Leg Crepe Joggers £99 John Lewis
If you don’t want a drawstring waist, then these are another option.
Jigsaw Satin Back Crepe Carrot Trousers £135 John Lewis
Black Belted Cigarette Trouser £79 Mint Velvet
The good thing about Mint Velvet is that they do short, regular and long lengths on lots of their trouser styles including this one.
Wide Legs
Olivia Wide Leg Culottes £59 Hush
Perfect styling here. Just layer a leather jacket or coat over the top.
Sonal Pleated Culottes £59 Hush
High Rise Cropped Crepe Trousers £99 Whistles at Selfridges
For a more tailored option that you can wear to work or more casually.
Culottes Trousers £29.99 Mango
At 23″ long these may hit your ankle or sit at a cropped length depending on your height.
High Waist Trousers £29.99 Zara
There are lots of wide legged knitted trouser styles around so pop these on and although it might feel like you’re in your pjs, these are a legitimate option for actually leaving the house in!
Straight Fit Knit Trousers £29.99 Zara
You don’t need to wear with a bandeau, an actual sweater would do the job just fine. Tuck in to get some waist shaping, or go for a boxier style if you want to keep the tummy/crotch area covered.
Wide Leg Knit Trousers £29.99 Zara
I love this entire look but my practical radar is in overdrive about wearing these in the house with sticky baby fingers and outside the house given the climate. If neither of these concerns you then go ahead, it’s a super stylish look.
Next week, it’s the first in a two-part coats special.

Ooh, just what I needed. Can’t bear the idea of jeans after a year of maternity leave/lockdown in tracksuit bottoms!
