Your Guide to Christmas Dressing

Yep it’s nearly upon us – the C word that is and I feel that now December is officially here, it’s time for a few thoughts about how to tackle the festive season, sartorially speaking.

There’s lots of options out there whether you need full on bling, a little sparkle or just a dusting. So with 24 days of advent, here are 24 different festive options for you.

It’s all about the B Bling B Bling as Jessie J said and if you are in her camp, then I love this Pleated Sequin Cami Dress £99 from Warehouse. This comes in black and navy.

Or this Juliet Sequin Dress £99 from Monsoon which is now only in stock in 14 and 16 online but you may have more luck in stores.

A little more low key is this Sadie Sequin Slash Neck Dress £69 which comes in black and blue and is a knitted dress.

On the skirt front, there is this Drapey Sequin Skirt £108 from Boden which you can wear with a simple cami or sweater.

To make a statement, Zara’s Multicoloured Sequin Midi Skirt £49.99 is the one. A black fitted polo neck or crew neck sweater would take this down a notch or two on the in-your-face front.

Now to re-think the traditional Christmas jumper and move away from Christmas puddings on your boobs (yep that’s me and my Primark number). I like Warehouse’s Sequin Disc Jumper £46 which you can pair with any trouser or skirt – leather, chiffon, midi.

Or Zara’s Sweater with Coloured Sequins £39.99. I like the cool pairing with a shirt for the day and then remove and pair with leather leggings/coated jeans and heels for the evening.

There is also this beauty from H&M but I cannot seem to find it online. Am going to go back to try this on as I love the embellishment.

For a cami, try this Sequin Cami £46 from Warehouse which you can easily put with jeans to dress it down slightly. This is the dark grey, but it also comes in navy too.

Or this Sequin High Back Vest £31.50 from Oasis. I like the pairing with the velvet jacket and coated jeans.

Talking of jeans, AG has this Isabelle Distressed Straight Leg High Rise Jean £250 with a nice bit of silver on them. Wear with heels, a tee or cami and a long line blazer for a modern look.

If you don’t want to deck your body in the manner of your Christmas tree and glitz is not your thing, then a jumpsuit is the perfect antidote to all the sparkle. A very modern take on evening wear, an outfit all in one and something you can wear all year round, they tick an awful lot of boxes.

This Pleated Back Jumpsuit £99.95 from Massimo Dutti is a stunner. Very sleek and sophisticated – but it is sold out online in some sizes.

Comptoir des Cotonniers also has this Crepe Jumpsuit £175 which comes in a gorgeous deep green and a navy.

Reiss has lots of jumpsuit options about including this Kita Lace Back Jumpsuit £250.

Or for something a bit more playful try this Cuba Metallic Burn-Out Playsuit £195.

For a more subtle yet still shiny approach, accessories are the answer and starting off with shoes as there are some seriously gorgeous party pieces around.

H&M has these Embellished Satin Courts £34.99 which come in black and silver.

And if you don’t think you can teeter around on a heel with a few glasses of bubbles in you, then they also do them in a flat version: Pumps with Sparkly Stones £19.99. They do come in black.

I also love these Rosalie Flats from Boden £120 and think these would be a very good buy that you could wear time and again. The fact that they are flat not only saves your feet but also looks that bit cooler. Wear with jeans or a simple pair of trousers for an understated look or pair with a leather skirt. The black are sold out already in some sizes.

Oasis has these Ivy Embellished Pointed Ballerina Shoes £32 as an alternative.

Accessorize also has a couple of inexpensive pairs if you don’t want to break the bank including these Harper Elasticated Star Point Shoes £20.30 .

If all the bling is proving a bit much, then a metallic shoe minus the sparkle is definitely something you can wear all year round. Jigsaw has this Clarence Flat £98 which will look lovely with jeans and a sweater/tee and leather jacket for everyday or add a cami and blazer and you are set for the night.

Also at Jones the Bootmaker, there is the Gala £89.

For those of you not keen on twinkle toes, get your festive bling on with a bag like this Lightning Glitter Clutch £40 from Hush. A good present too as it’s definitely something you could take with you on any night out.

Or this gorgeous pony skin number Ola Foil Printed Leather Coin Purse £17.99 from Accessorize which is actually big enough to put your phone/keys/card holder and lippie in.

And finally, if you’re still feeling a bit bah humbug about the whole thing, why not just opt for a pair of snazzy socks like these Glitter Ankle Socks £3.50 from Warehouse which come in gold, silver and berry? The multi-coloured ones which I have are sold out online but are definitely in store. Ooops that’s 25 – but then you do need something for the big day itself.

And that’s a Christmas wrap!
