Birds of Paradise – the jewels of the season

Earrings are back and big this season but there is also a lot of other loveliness in the jewellery world. And when the weather is up and down and you are playing the hokey-cokey with your ankles – in, out, in, out – a nice bit of bling can be just the ticket to breathe a bit of life back into your wardrobe.

Given the lobes are where it’s at, let’s start here. You need to think Pat Butcher meets Dame Edna big and brash when it comes to your ears and go bright and/or jewelled.

Toolally at John Lewis has these Fan Colour Blocked Earrings £45 which come in three different colours, but these are my favourite.

&Other Stories has these Gemstone Pendant Earrings £19

J Crew is the place for costume type jewellery and they have some gorgeous earrings. My problem is the price tag. However, I have found an affordable earring at J Crew which is lovely – Fun Circle Earring £19.50. Love the tortoise shell but it also comes in a lighter grey and a pale blue.

Mango is also brilliant for excellently priced jewels and there are so many options to choose from. I like these Faceted Crystal Earrings for the princely sum of £9.99 They would brighten up a simple dress or tee very easily.

And these Flower Pendant Earrings £12.99.

Or the Tassels Pendant Earrings £12.99 which also come in black.

If these all feel a bit too brash, then for a more subtle option, go for a metal, and gold in particular. These Monica Hammered Statement Earrings £12 from Accessorize are lovely.

Or go supersize with these Gold Oversized Circle Stud Drop Earrings £29 from Oliver Bonas.

They also have these Gold Berlant Oversized Multi Layer Triangle Stud Earrings £32.

Or these Embossed Triangular Earrings £9.99 from Mango.

With hooped earrings everywhere, this pair of Hoop Earrings £17 from &Other Stories is more interesting than your standard.

For something a bit daintier, I very much like these Lightning Bolt Earrings £45 which are in rolled gold from Rebecca Jayne Jewellery. There is also a pendant necklace to match £35 and you can choose the length as 16 or 18″.

Alternatively, buy into the rose gold trend with these Disk Earrings £12 from Cos.

In the world of necklaces, architectural and gold is where it’s at and while the drama is centred on the ear, keep the neck simpler. Cos has a couple of gems including this Short Necklace with Fine Metal Shape £17. Perfect to sit in the neckline of a cami or tee.

Or this Interlinked Pendant Necklace £17.

For something a bit smaller, try &Other Stories Crescent Moon Necklace £17 which comes in silver as well as gold.

Meanwhile at Oliver Bonas the Gold Zosk Circle and Triangle Pendant looks much more expensive than its £36.

So while you may feel like reaching for your winter coat, there’s no need to worry about the temperature outside with any of these little gems.
