In a Blaze(r) of glory

Hello! Sorry it’s been a while but with the new season stock in stores, I thought I would kick off the autumn season with a subject that is very topical… And that is transitional layers for this in-between weather.

It’s time to swap that denim/utility jacket for something a bit more substantial. First up a good leather jacket is a good idea. This is most definitely something you should invest in to get a lovely soft, buttery leather that will last you for years to come. All Saints is a good place to start for this and you will be able to wear yours over dresses, with skirts, trousers, denim – basically everything you own!

Trenches were out in force during yesterday’s downpour and are ideal because they are lightweight so essentially the opening act before you need to get your coat on.

And then last but very much not least is the blazer. There are so many lovely options around in stores at the moment from brightly coloured tweeds and boucle styles to key neutrals, checks, dogstooth and more.

Don’t think of a blazer as something you only want to wear to work – pair yours with trainers and hoodie for the ultimate in high-low dressing. Wear over leggings, dresses, skirts, denim…the list goes on. A good blazer is a key component in any capsule wardrobe so as September very much has that back to school/work feeling, make sure you have got your wardrobe foundations in place. Here are a few different looks for you to think about and as you can see they are all firmly paired with trainers…!

Classics & Neutrals

Ruched Sleeve Blazer £45 M&S

This comes in black, bright pink, blue and khaki. I have a very similar style in black and love the ruched sleeves.

Black Shawl Collar Blazer £129 Mint Velvet

The perfect mix of smart and casual – a versatile style you can dress up or down.

Fitted Textured Blazer £59.99 Zara

Chanel-inspired boucle fabrics are big and the texture works well if you are pairing yours with a plain black trouser. A nice dressier alternative to a classic black.

Short Textured Weave Blazer £59.99 Zara

Or go light…

Slim Jersey Jacket £85 Whistles

This comes in a whole host of other colours and is a nice fitted style which will accentuate the waist.

Flecked Wool Blend Blazer £69.99 Mango

The great thing about these wool blazers is that they double up as a short coat as temperatures drop.

Blazer with Button £149 Massimo Dutti

Whilst a light suit is not practical for most, it’s nice to keep things light on your top half into the autumn.

Checkmate

Saskia Checked Blazer £129 Hush

Love this look and did you know Hush has now started to stock sizes 4 and XXS in its collection which is great for those of you who found their sizing generous.

Wool Blend Blazer with elbow patches £79.99 Zara

There is a lot of tweed around this season but you can take the country out of the look by pairing tweeds with leather/trainers or something edgy as I have done above.

Houndstooth Blazer £169 Massimo Dutti

These dogstooth blazers are just as good with denim as they are with tailoring.

Houndstooth Wool Blend Blazer £59.99 Mango

Fab with leather too.

Textured Houndstooth Blazer £59.99 Zara

Jazz up your tailoring with this statement blazer.

Brights

Collarless Blazer £49.99 Zara

Make an impact with a brightly coloured blazer and for those of you that a collar doesn’t suit, this is a great option. It does also come in a light pink/blue.

Textured Double Breasted Blazer £59.99 Zara

This comes in green, pink and blue

In a nutshell, a blazer will sort out your smart/casual game so make sure you’ve got yours ready.

I love blazers they are so versatile exactly as you have shown you can dress them up or down. I am also small just 5ft3 and I was so surprised when you said you were 5ft 2 I thought you’d were around 5 ft 5 as you look so slim and tall in your posts but I’m learning from you that the way we dress can make one look taller so thank you for all your hard work

Love this post! And love a blazer. I actually ordered the Hush one a few days ago so am looking forward to that arriving tomorrow. Looks like a good one.
